Up by 2.1% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU compared with March 2025

Overview

In March 2026, compared with February 2026, industrial producer prices increased by 3.4% in the euro area and by 3.2% in the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In February 2026, industrial producer prices fell by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.5% in the EU.

In March 2026, compared with March 2025, industrial producer prices increased by 2.1% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU.

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in March 2026, compared with February 2026, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 0.7% for intermediate goods,

  • increased by 11.1% for energy,

  • increased by 0.2% for capital goods,

  • increased by 0.2% for durable consumer goods,

  • increased by 0.3% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.5%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 0.8% for intermediate goods,

  • increased by 10.2% for energy,

  • increased by 0.3% for capital goods,

  • increased by 0.1% for durable consumer goods,

  • increased by 0.3% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 0.4%.

The highest monthly increases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Lithuania (+6.9%), Spain (+6.5%) and Italy (+5.9%). The largest decreases were observed in Estonia (-12.3%), Finland (-5.3%) and Bulgaria (-2.5%).

Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in March 2026, compared with March 2025, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 2.0% for intermediate goods,

  • increased by 4.2% for energy,

  • increased by 1.6% for capital goods,

  • increased by 2.5% for durable consumer goods,

  • remained stable for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.4%.

In the EU, industrial producer prices

  • increased by 1.7% for intermediate goods,

  • increased by 4.4% for energy,

  • increased by 1.6% for capital goods,

  • increased by 2.3% for durable consumer goods,

  • increased by 0.1% for non-durable consumer goods.

Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.3%.

The highest annual increases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Romania (+7.8%), Bulgaria (+7.5%) and Lithuania (+7.2%). The largest decreases were observed in Luxembourg (-4.9%), Estonia (-2.4%) and Slovakia (-1.3%).

Revisions and timetable

Compared with data issued in the News Release of 8 April 2026, the monthly percentage decrease for February 2026 has been revised from -0.7% to -0.6% in the euro area and remained unchanged at -0.5% in the EU. The annual percentage decrease remained unchanged at -3.0% in the euro area and at -2.7% in the EU.

Methods and definitions

The index of producer prices shows (in the national currency of the country concerned) changes in the ex-works sale prices of all products sold on the domestic market, excluding imports. Euro area and EU indices refer to overall weighted price changes. The figures are not calendar day or seasonally adjusted.

Total industry covers NACE rev.2 sections B to D + E36.

Euro area (EA21) includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland.

The European Union (EU27) includes Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden.
