Wholesale selling prices, February 2026
+1.2% on the same month a year earlier

WIESBADEN – The selling prices in wholesale trade were 1.2% higher in February 2026 than in February 2025. In January 2026 and December 2025, the year-on-year rate of change also stood at +1.2%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that wholesale prices in February 2026 rose by 0.6% on January 2026.

Higher prices for non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products, and for food, beverages and tobacco

The main reason for the year-on-year increase in wholesale prices (total) in February 2026 were higher prices of non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products, with prices up 44.9% from February 2025, on average. Compared with January 2026, they were also considerably higher (+5.2%).

An increase in prices in the wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (+0.8% on February 2025) also had a considerable impact on the development of prices compared with the same month of the previous year. Sugar, confectionery and bakery products, in particular, cost substantially more than a year earlier (+9.1% on February 2025). Higher year-on-year prices were also recorded for meat and meat products (+3.7% compared with February 2025).

On the other hand, prices were lower than in February 2025 in the wholesale of grain, unmanufactured tobacco, seeds and animal feeds (-7.4% from February 2025, +1.8% from January 2026) and in the wholesale of milk, milk products, eggs, edible fats and oils (-6.6% from February 2025 and -0.2% from January 2026).

Year on year, lower prices were also reported in the wholesale of mineral oil products (-3.9%). Compared with January 2026, prices were up 2.6%, however.
