# Monthly Survey of Manufacturing, February 2026

Manufacturing sales increased **3.6%** to $71.2 billion in February 2026, following a 3.1% decline in January. Sales rose in 12 of the 21 subsectors, led by transportation equipment (+18.8%), machinery (+7.7%) and primary metal (+4.9%). On a year-over-year basis, total manufacturing sales were down 1.7% in February.

In constant dollars, total manufacturing sales rose 3.4% in February, while the Industrial Product Price Index increased 0.4%.

## Key Details

- **Transportation equipment** rebounded 18.8% to $10.6B; motor vehicles +43.4% to $3.7B; motor vehicle parts +9.9% to $2.7B
- **Machinery** increased 7.7% to $4.6B (real +3.1%)
- **Primary metals** reached a record high, rising 4.9% to $6.5B (real +9.2%)
- **Chemical products** declined 3.2% to $5.0B
- **Provincial gains:** Ontario +7.5% to $30.5B, Quebec +2.4% to $19.0B; Alberta -2.5% to $8.5B
- **Total inventories** rose 0.6% to $121.9B; **inventory-to-sales ratio** fell from 1.76 to 1.71
- **Unfilled orders** increased 2.3% to $117.6B (record high)
- **Capacity utilization** increased from 75.4% to 77.1%
