# National holidays — Easter Monday confirmed

The Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) official page on national holidays confirms that **Easter Monday** (*Ostermontag*) is one of nine public holidays observed nationwide across all German federal states.

## Legal status

The Day of German Unity (3 October) is the only holiday set directly by federal law. All other holidays, including Easter Monday, are established under the federal states' legislation on Sundays and holidays. Nevertheless, Easter Monday is uniformly observed nationwide and is not subject to variation between states.

## Nationwide public holidays (including Easter Monday)

According to the BMI, the nine public holidays observed throughout Germany are:

- 1 January: New Year's holiday
- Good Friday
- **Easter Monday**
- Ascension Day
- Whit Monday / Pentecost Monday
- 1 May
- Day of German Unity (3 October)
- December 25 and 26
