## Legal Framework

The official national public holidays in Italy are established by **Law 27 May 1949, No. 260**, as subsequently amended. The most recent amendment, Law 151/2025 published in Gazzetta Ufficiale on 10 October 2025 and effective from 1 January 2026, adds **4 October (San Francesco d'Assisi)** as a new national holiday and modifies certain provisions.

## Article 2 of Law 260/1949 (as amended)

The law defines which days are considered national public holidays ("festività nazionali"). According to the official text reproduced in the Gazzetta Ufficiale:

> **Art. 2** — Sono considerati giorni festivi, agli effetti della osservanza del completo orario festivo e del divieto di compiere determinati atti giuridici, oltre al giorno della festa nazionale, i giorni seguenti:
>
> - tutte le domeniche;
> - il primo giorno dell'anno;
> - il giorno dell'Epifania;
> - il giorno della festa di San Giuseppe;
> - il 25 aprile: Anniversario della Liberazione;
> - **il giorno di lunedì dopo Pasqua;**
> - il giorno dell'Ascensione;
> - il giorno del Corpus Domini;
> - il 1° maggio: Festa del Lavoro;
> - il giorno della festa dei santi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo;
> - il giorno dell'Assunzione della B. V. Maria;
> - il 4 ottobre: festa nazionale di San Francesco d'Assisi, patrono d'Italia;
> - il giorno di Ognissanti;
> - il 4 novembre: giorno dell'unità nazionale;
> - il giorno della festa dell'Immacolata Concezione;
> - il giorno di Natale;
> - il giorno 26 dicembre.

## Easter Monday (Pasquetta / Lunedì dell'Angelo)

The text explicitly confirms **"il giorno di lunedì dopo Pasqua"** (the Monday following Easter) as a national public holiday. In 2026, Easter Sunday falls on 5 April, therefore Easter Monday is **6 April 2026** — the date of the event in the payload.

This holiday is a moveable feast because Easter follows the computus (first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox). Easter Monday is always the day after Easter Sunday.

## Legislative Notes

The 2025 amendment (Law 151/2025) also modifies Law 4 March 1958, No. 132 regarding the status of 4 October, removing references to San Francesco as a " patrono speciale" and establishing Santa Caterina da Siena as the sole patroness of Italy.
