## Interest Rates

### Policy Interest Rates

The Australian Cash Rate Target is the primary policy instrument of the Reserve Bank of Australia's Board. The official interest rate is the cash rate. The cash rate is the rate charged on overnight loans between financial intermediaries, and is determined in the money market as a result of the interaction of demand for and supply of overnight funds.

The cash rate and 90-day bill yield are presented in the context of real cash rate calculations, which use average year-ended weighted median inflation and year-ended trimmed mean inflation. The cash rate target represents the RBA's primary monetary policy setting.

### 10-year Australian Government Bond Yield

The 10-year Australian government bond yield represents the medium-term interest rate environment. The spread between the Australian 10-year bond yield and the cash rate target captures the term premium and market expectations for future monetary policy settings.
